USS Missouri Gun #386

Gun #386 from the battleship Missouri found a new home at San Francisco's Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Other Missouri guns were slated to go to Delaware, Virginia, and Arizona.

According to the below article #386 "lay in the Nevada desert alongside eighteen other battleship gun barrels". I wonder what ships the other guns were from. Apparently the Missouri guns going to Delaware were stored in Norfolk.

It is somewhat ironic that while San Francisco rejected the entire battleship Iowa, part of her sister ship is finding a new home there.

Ship Ahoy!

I love historic ships. And we've all most likely seen them in various places around the world. The Missouri and Arizona at Pearl Harbor. The Intrepid in New York City. The Olympia in Philadelphia, and many more.

But there are also pieces of historic ships scattered all over. I once saw the bell of the battleship New Mexico on the campus of the University of New Mexico. And a mast from the West Virginia exists in Morgantown, West Virgina. And these are landlocked states!

This blog is dedicated in documenting the various bits and pieces of historic ships scattered all over.
